Description

The inaugural 2018 RV Consumer Report is the most comprehensive consumer study of its kind in Australia to examine recreational vehicle purchasing and usage preferences among current vehicle owners, former owners, potential new market entrants and consumers who have limited preference for buying into the RV lifestyle.

As this is the first year of the reporting series, this study sets the benchmarks required to examine the Australian population over the coming decades to understand shifts in consumer preferences, lifestyle choices, buying and selling trends, purchase intention, RV features and amenities preferences, rental and peer-to-peer usage, and travel and leisure patterns.

Report Structure
This report is presented in 8 sections. Section 1 provides a background to current RV ownership patterns across Australia drawing upon the Australian Bureau of Statistics, survey and industry data to position the backdrop for RV ownership.

Section 2 examines demographic trends of current RV owners, with a close look at age, income and geographical insights broken down by type of RV owned. Section 3 will then examine the purchase trends of new and used vehicles analysed by vehicle type and demographics, concluding with exploring the barriers to RV usage.

Section 4 focuses on the motivation to sell an RV, cross analysed with income, age groups, children living at home and current owners. Section 5 builds upon these insights to explore the likelihood of former RV owners re-entering the market, as well examining the potential for new market entrants and those current owners who plan to upgrade their existing vehicle.

Moving onto section 6, the report takes a closer look at the features and amenities that consumers are seeking in their RVs when purchasing. Just as importantly, the research also provides insights into what consumers are prepared to economise or give up when purchasing an RV.

RV rental intention is explored in Section 7 as well as examining peer-to-peer rental trends for the first time, which provides much needed insights into this segment of the market.

Lastly, the report will conclude with an overview of travel and leisure interests in comparison to vehicle type owned, demographical trends and ownership patterns.
